Day 14

October 23rd, 2021
Scripture Reading: Mark 8:22-26 (NIV)

some people brought a blind man and begged Jesus to touch him…

This scripture reading focuses on Jesus healing a blind man at the village of Bethsaida. This is a great story of the healing power of Jesus. However, I am drawn to the first verse, “some people brought a blind man and begged Jesus to touch him…” Who were these people? They are not noted as immediate family members. Why would they bring the blind man to Jesus? I am assuming the blind man could not travel on his own volition. This would make travel before the days of freeways and four-wheel drive rather perilous for the whole group.

Sure, I am quick to pass a dollar to the homeless on the street or donate to a worthy cause. These are important things to do. However, am I willing to be uncomfortable and suffer along with the disenfranchised? To really commit to those in my community that are suffering? When we act like those that brought the blind man to Jesus and personally care for and walk beside those in need, we can still take the suffering and oppressed to the justice and love of Jesus.
