Baptism is an ancient sacrament of the Christian church; an outward sign and seal of the loving care of God and a sacred covenant between family and congregation. The use of water as a symbol for new life echoes the meaning of water in many cultures and traditions. First Community Church baptizes infants, young children, youth and adults. Parents may choose to have Godparents, who promise to nurture and teach a child in the ways of the Christian faith.

In general, baptism is performed by sprinkling. However, adults can choose to be baptized by immersion. This can be done by First Community Church clergy in another setting.

Private baptisms can be arranged if families are unavailable for one of our Baptism Sundays. Private baptism fees are:
Burkhart Chapel: Members – $25; Non-members – $50
Sanctuary: Members – $50; Non-members – $75.

Attendance at a baptism class is expected for adults or families who have not previously participated in a baptism class at First Community Church.

To schedule a public or private baptism, email Paula Russell, Director of Congregational Care, or call 614 488.0681 ext 228.
