Spiritual Guidance

The Spiritual Guidance Ministry is rooted in the contemplative practices and traditions of the church. They include silence, active listening and prayer. It is for anyone intentionally seeking to discern the movement of God’s spirit in their lives and to deepen their spiritual journey.

The Ministry provides three options for experiencing God together:

Small Group Spiritual Guidance: Loving witness and affirmation. Four people meet once a month with a trained facilitator/guide for a guided process of conversation, silence and prayer for deepening spirituality and the experience of God.

Individual meetings with a Spiritual Director: Loving listening and counsel. Meet as often as desired with a trained director. Establish a prayerful relationship in which one person helps another notice God’s work in all daily experiences.

Spiritual Practices Workshops: Loving adventure and exploration. Periodic offerings by trained facilitators. Explore a variety of spiritual practices from many spiritual disciplines.

The following spiritual directors in our congregation are available for spiritual guidance. Click on their name below to read their bio:

Having earned a BS and MA degree in psychology, Lisa worked as an Individual and Family therapist and addictions counselor for 10 years. Her graduate studies focused on human growth and potential and eastern and western mysticism, which then led to the Virginia School of Spiritual Direction in 1993. There, Lisa discovered the wisdom of contemplative prayer and the Enneagram. She is recently certified as a Riso/Hudson Enneagram Institute Teacher and continues to study with James Finley, Cynthia Bourgeaut and Richard Rohr through online classes and retreats at the Center for Action and Contemplation. She is married with two sons and enjoys being on the Spiritual Searcher Committee at First Community Church.
