A Great Calm
Our Senior Trip is a canoe excursion in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in Minnesota. It is designed to challenge your body, mind and faith. This trip for recently graduated seniors is seen as the “capstone” of First Community’s Youth Program. This will be a time for you to experience how your faith journey intersects with daily life through the different challenges this adventure will bring.
A Great Calm, is how the disciples described the energy after Jesus silenced the storm of the sea. Graduating high school can bring chaos, fears, anticipation of what is to come and many joys. While we are on “boats” this summer we may be faced with fierce physical, emotional and spiritual storms; this trip will provide the opportunity to calm the storms within us and provide tools for us to use in the future, as a new chapter of life approaches.
The trip is a personal voyage of discovery, a deep bonding with the people around you, an appreciation of the beauty that surrounds us, and a daily routine that is counter to today’s busy culture. First Community Church is committed to providing our youth lessons about themselves, others and God before they go out into the world.

Because you want to take on a physical, emotional, and spiritual challenge. Because you want an experience you will not encounter anywhere else. Lastly, because you want to have fun…guaranteed!

Untethered Adventures has a 50 year tradition of traveling with high school students in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW). This canoe trip provides the students with the opportunity to spend a week exploring some of the most beautiful wild country in North America. The BWCAW has tens of thousands of cool freshwater lakes that afford almost more water than land. For years, students have met the challenge of the BWCAW: fishing, swimming in clear clean lakes, observing and photographing wildlife in their natural habitat, and exploring backcountry lakes and rivers. Upon your completed FCC registration and payment, you will be required to complete a packet from Untethered Adventures. Please return the Untethered Packet to Jen Bratka and to make payments through First Community Church.
Registration through First Community Church must be completed online by clicking below.
Number of Participants
Registration will open first for First Community Church members for a two week period. Then it will open again for the public.
This trip is intended solely for graduated high school seniors.
Due to the nature of the trip, and permit requirements, we will close registration at 7 participants, then begin a wait list.
Permits are issued to group with either 6-7 participants or 12-15. Once we reach enough wait list registrations to fulfill another permit, we will enroll that group of people.
