“Children have an innate sense of the presence of God. The Godly Play® approach helps them to explore their faith through story, to gain religious language and to enhance their spiritual experience though wonder and play. Based on Montessori principles and developed using a spiral curriculum, […] the Godly Play® method is a curriculum of spiritual practice exploring the mystery of God’s presence in our lives.” (From GodlyPlayFoundation.org)
In the Godly Play classroom, children are welcomed by the Door Keeper who helps them enter quietly with respect and attention. The kids join the Storyteller to build a circle of people sitting on the floor. Then the Storyteller tells a Bible story using beautifully crafted wooden pieces. By watching and listening, the children can enter the story from their own perspective and create meaning that is appropriate for them. The children then choose to respond to the story in a variety of ways such as playing with the story pieces or pieces from another story, writing, creating art, engaging in fellowship with their church friends, or enjoying a snack.
Godly Play fosters independent play and introduces Christian language and ritual in an age-appropriate and unthreatening way. There are two Godly Play classrooms at North Campus, and one at South Campus, and Godly Play instruction in used from September until May.
Please take a moment to register your child for Sunday school. It is important that we be able to reach you in case of an emergency during your child’s time with us. Registering also provides us with crucial allergy or other health information and ensures that you receive up-to-date information about schedule changes and special events and opportunities. Thank you for helping us to provide the best possible care for your child.
Sunday school is taught by a trained and experienced leadership team. However, volunteers are crucial to supplement classroom supervision. Two people are needed in each classroom for safety. No experience or special skills are needed, just a smiling face and helping hands. Each new volunteer is placed with an experienced leader. Thank you!
