YWCA Family Center Mission
About This Mission
The YWCA Family Center provides food to families experiencing poverty while also providing an opportunity for our church families with middle school children to participate in an activity together.
Once a month during the school year, we gather dinner items and meet at North Campus at 4:30 pm. We then drive to the Center in church vans, prepare and serve the food. Typically the adults do the food preparation and the middle schoolers serve the food. Food is served directly to each table, which gives our students more interaction with families than they would get in a buffet line. We typically have 6-8 adults and 8-12 children volunteer each month, and typically we serve 150 to 200 people.
This mission is sometimes the first experience our young people have interacting with people from different economic circumstances. The mission also helps students develop a passion for service so they may help those less fortunate in the future.
