Construction Updates

Commencement of the Robert S. Crane Jr., Welcome Center began Monday, April 17 with the placement of construction site equipment.  The project will occur in phases with a projected completion date in September of this year.  During the phases, you will see construction and parking availability change.  Since the demolition of the west side of the playground is within the first phase, a new fence was installed on the north side of our property on Cambridge Blvd mid-April, thanks to a private donor, creating a new play space for the preschool children.  The current playground will be closed during construction.

Expansion Updates

The opening of The Robert S. Crane, Jr., Welcome Center at our Cambridge Boulevard address has been impacted by the additional project scope.  We are excited about its opening and the alternates, which are positive improvements to our facilities.  We will keep you informed of its progress.

Excitement continues as Corna KoKosing begins mobilization and site work this month for our new sanctuary and spaces that support the sanctuary at our Dublin Road address.

Construction fence will surround our property facing Dublin Road to enclose the construction site and the surrounding grounds to the east.  The construction site will impact our normal traffic patterns.

  • New entrance off of Dublin Road directing you along the south side of our parking lot.
  • Patio doors next to our main entrance closest to Grace Hall, will become our new entrance. A sidewalk addition will connect the handicap parking area to the patio.  A handicap operator will be available to easily gain access into the building.
  • A change to our current traffic flow to enter and exit the hallway running along Grace Hall to the east will begin with construction.

Directional signs will be posted to assist you with all of the changes.

Thank you for your patience during this exciting time in the life of our church.

I will continue to provide updates during the construction process.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

Final Phase – October Update

By Pam Jameson

The Robert S. Crane, Jr., Welcome Center continues to excite and evolve. Timelines and procedures for the alternates are being finalized and implemented based on priority and proximity.  The alternates approved by the Governing Board include new flooring throughout the first floor public areas, restroom renovations, family restroom, painting, signage, Burkhart Meeting Room and courtyard patio. During the month of October interior improvements on the main floor will impact our normal appearance and traffic flow.  The majority of the fully funded projects are expected to be completed early November.

Your gifts are important and necessary to continue our ministry.  If you are interested in making a gift, please contact Bruce Pontious or myself.

We appreciate your continued patience and support.  Project updates will be communicated, however please feel free to contact me with any questions in the meantime.

Final Phase – September Update

We are approaching the home stretch of the Robert S. Crane, Jr. Welcome Center and anticipating its completion.

The final touches of the welcome center will continue throughout the month of September. The Governing Board approved the following alternates, including estimates, to the South Campus project during their July 23 meeting.

Floors throughout First Floor, Public Areas  $122,000
Painting  $ 60,000
Signage  $ 15,000
Restroom Renovations, including Family Restroom $ 50,000
Burkhart Meeting Room/With Stain Glass $ 40,000
Courtyard  $ 10,000

Behind the scenes, we continue to seek support to fully fund the alternates. Construction timelines and procedures will be altered in order to effectively and efficiently incorporate the improvements.

We look forward to the return of our full worship schedule on Sunday, September 10. As a reminder, the 8:30 am communion and worship service normally held in Burkhart Chapel, will be temporarily held in the sanctuary choir loft until the reopening of the chapel.

The joy and blessings continue for which we are so grateful. We are eager to fully experience the improvements made possible by your generous gifts and appreciate your continued patience and support.  If you are interested in making a gift, please contact Bruce Pontious. Project updates will be communicated, however please feel free to contact me with any questions in the meantime.

Phase Three – July through September

Construction of the Welcome Center is progressing as planned.  Excitement continues this month as the structure begins transforming into a building. This transformation will change our regular routine of entering and exiting the 1320 Building. Steps are being made to ensure an easy transition.

You can expect to see and hear the following changes during July.

  • The new structure will be framed and wall sheathing will be installed. Roofing materials and exterior stone is projected for the end of July early August.
  • Demolition of the south wall to the 1320 Building to create an opening and framing of the new doorway is scheduled sometime after July 4.
  • Due to the amount of work required to complete the project, Burkhart Chapel entrance, Burkhart Chapel and southwest stairway will be closed until completion of the project.
  • Barriers and signs will be posted to route traffic flow to and from the building.
  • The construction fence will continue similar to the previous phase with the exception of the north side fence expanded to close off Burkhart Entrance. The parking lot will continue to be available with the exception of a slight reduction weekdays when larger equipment is being used.

The project is projected for completion after the start of our fall schedule which begins on Sunday, September 10. Due to the timeline and the necessary work around Burkhart Chapel, special arrangements are being made to hold the 8:30 am communion and worship service in the Sanctuary choir loft until the new Welcome Center is open.

It is an exciting time in the life of our church. This project is an important and necessary addition to allow us to fully greet and welcome our faith community.
