In an emotionally safe environment, the Youth Choirs at First Community Church provide a loving community for children as they explore music literacy and vocal technique. Children in the choirs become active and confident participants in worship as they bring their song of praise and prayer to God.
Membership in the Junior Choir is available to all children in grades four and five. You may register your child when they arrive at their first rehearsal or pre-register online. The best times to join are in September or January, although all are welcome at anytime throughout the program year.
Rehearsal Times and Performances
Junior Choir meets on Wednesday evenings in Room 118 at the North Campus from September through May from 6:30 to 7:15 pm. We perform every 4 to 6 weeks throughout the choir season. Detailed rehearsal and performance schedules are given to parents at the first rehearsal in September, for September through December, and the first rehearsal in January, for January through May. In December all the youth choirs (K-12) combine to present a Christmas Musical during worship.
The rehearsals for Junior Choir focus on basic music reading skills, vocal production (including posture and breathing), rhythm, pitch, and understanding the different elements of the worship liturgy. They will learn how a choir takes a leadership role during worship. The children will also learn how to present themselves during worship in a way that will help move them and the congregation closer to God.
Funding for the Youth Choirs
Funding for the Youth Choirs is provided by your family’s donation at the time that you register your child, congregational pledges to the general operating fund of the church and by gifts designated to the Youth Choirs. Most of our equipment has been provided for us by grants from First Community Foundation. Thank you for your family’s support.
